Seven years, one dog, and a fair amount of discussion about whether a field counts as a wedding venue. It does. We're getting married in a small Norman church on the edge of Dartmoor, then walking everyone down the lane to a farm for the rest of it. Koda will be there. We'd love it if you were too.

Ball Farm
Southerly, Sourton, Okehampton, Devon EX20 4HGA working farm with a big open field looking straight out at the moor — the one in the photograph. Drinks and dinner here, dancing until late, and tents in the field for anyone who wants one. Parking is on site and you're welcome to leave a car overnight.

Arrive at the church
Come to Sourton by half past twelve so there's no rush. Someone will point you at a pew.

By car, train and plane
Signal out here is patchy at best. If you're driving, it's worth printing the essentials and leaving them in the glovebox.
Off the A30
Church EX20 4HN · Farm EX20 4HGLeave the A30 at Sourton Cross. Both postcodes work in a sat nav, but the lanes are single track in places — allow a few extra minutes and fold your mirrors in.
Okehampton station
Okehampton, Devon EX20 1EJ · about 6 milesThe Dartmoor Line runs to Okehampton from Exeter St Davids, roughly hourly and around 40 minutes. From there it's a short taxi. There's no shuttle from the station, so book a taxi in advance for that leg too.
Exeter Airport
About 40 miles · roughly an hourExeter is the closest; Bristol is around two hours away but usually better connected. Hire a car if you can — public transport out here thins out considerably after dark.

Swift Taxis · book well in advanceThere is no Uber in this part of Devon and very little chance of finding a cab on the night. Swift Taxis are the ones we use and they know the farm — book a return trip well before the day.

The simplest answer is to camp in the field — it's free, it's encouraged, and it solves the taxi problem. If a tent isn't your thing, everything below is within a few miles of Ball Farm, listed nearest first. We haven't held a block of rooms anywhere, so everything below is booked directly with them — and it's a small corner of Devon on a Friday in July, so the sooner the better.
Camping in the field
Ball Farm, Southerly EX20 4HGBring a tent and stay in the field — we'd genuinely love you to. It's the cheapest bed for miles, nobody has to worry about a taxi, and you wake up to the moor and a big breakfast with everyone else who stayed up too late. There are facilities laid on in the field — we'll confirm exactly what, and what time we'd like it cleared, nearer the time.
Bring: a tent, a warm sleeping bag, a torch and wellies. It's Dartmoor — it gets properly cold at night and the grass will be wet by morning, even in July.
Bearslake Inn
Lake, Sourton, Okehampton EX20 4HQA thatched inn about half a mile away, right on the Granite Way. Rooms, very good food, and the shortest possible taxi ride home.
Collaven Manor Hotel
Sourton, Okehampton EX20 4HHA 15th-century manor about a mile from the farm, run as a small hotel. Big gardens, excellent breakfast, and extremely well reviewed.
The Fox & Hounds
Lydford, Okehampton EX20 4HFJust over a mile south. Traditional, comfortable, dog friendly, and a good base for anyone making a weekend of it near Lydford Gorge.
Knole Farm
Bridestowe, Okehampton EX20 4HAA working farm B&B about a mile and a half away. Big rooms, an enormous breakfast, and very warm hosts.
Heathergate
Brambleham Lane, Lydford EX20 4BPA quiet, very highly rated B&B down a farm lane near Lydford, about three miles from the farm.
Travelodge Sourton Cross
Sourton Cross, A386, Okehampton EX20 4LYThree miles up the road at the A30 junction. Not romantic, but cheap, easy to book, and it has plenty of rooms if everywhere else fills up.
Cottages and Airbnb
Sourton, Bridestowe, Lydford, OkehamptonThere's a lot of self-catering around this side of Dartmoor and it works out well for groups — a cottage split four ways beats four hotel rooms.
What should I wear?
Summer suits and summer dresses — nothing black tie, nothing that needs hiring. Two practical notes, though: the churchyard and the field are both on grass, so heels will sink, and Dartmoor makes its own weather. Bring a layer even in July, and if you're camping, something warm for later.
Will there be phone signal?
Barely any, and no wifi at the farm — which we've decided is a feature. Two practical things: warn anyone who might need to reach you during the day, and screenshot your taxi booking before you set off, because you may not be able to load it when you need it.
Can I bring my children?
We've kept the day to grown-ups, with one exception: if you're travelling from New Zealand to be here, please bring your children. Flying eleven thousand miles and leaving them behind is not something we'd ask of anyone.
For everyone else — we're sorry. We love your children, we just have one field and a finite number of chairs. Your invitation lists everyone we've got space for.
Can I bring a plus one?
Only where we've specifically said so — if your invitation mentions a guest, their name will already be waiting on your reply card. If it doesn't, we're sorry: it's one field and a finite number of chairs, and we've had to draw the line somewhere.
Tell me more about the camping
The field at Ball Farm is open to anyone who fancies it, and we'd love you to use it — it's free, it's five seconds from the party, and it means no taxi. There are facilities in the field, and we'll post the details here once they're settled. Bring a warm sleeping bag and a torch; Dartmoor gets cold at night whatever the forecast says.
Can I leave my car overnight?
Yes, and please do. Leave it at the farm and collect it any time before 5pm on the Saturday. Come in the morning and there's breakfast in it for you. Much better than driving.
What about presents?
Your being there is genuinely the thing, and we mean that. If you'd still like to give something, it's all on the Gifts page — including the option that costs nothing.

Please don't feel you have to. We've been together seven years and have accumulated everything two people could reasonably need, plus a dog who has opinions about most of it. Getting yourselves to a field in Devon is the present. But people always ask, so — here's the honest answer.
New Zealand
We're going to New Zealand for our honeymoon, to see Katie's family — some of whom will have flown all the way here for the wedding, so it feels only fair to return the trip. It's a long way and a long time saving up for it. If you'd like to put something towards it, we'd be very glad.
Words instead
Coming to a wedding is expensive enough — the travel, the bed, the day off. If that's already the stretch, please don't give us anything else. We'd far rather have you there.
If you'd still like to mark it somehow: write us a recipe you actually cook, send us a photo of the two of us you've got on your phone, or put a piece of marriage advice on the back of a card. The honest kind, not the greetings-card kind. We'll keep all of it.
